What is a servo motor? How many types are there? What are the working characteristics?

A: Servo motor, also called actuator motor, is used as an actuator in automatic control system to convert the received electric signal into angular displacement or angular velocity output on the motor shaft. It is divided into two categories: DC and AC servo motor. Its main characteristic is that there is no self-rotation when the signal voltage is zero, and the speed decreases at a uniform rate with the increase of torque.

What is the difference between AC servo motor and brushless DC servo motor in terms of function?

A: AC servo is better, because it is a sine wave control, torque pulsation is small. DC servo is trapezoidal wave. But DC servo is simpler and cheaper.

So far, most of the high-performance electric servo systems use permanent magnet synchronous AC servo motors, and the control drive mostly uses fast and accurate positioning of the full digital position servo system. Typical manufacturers such as Germany Siemens, the United States Kollmorgen and Japan Panasonic and Yaskawa and other companies.

Japan's YASKAWA Electric introduced small AC servo motors and drives, including the D series for CNC machine tools (maximum speed of 1000r/min, torque of 0.25 ~ 2.8N.m), R series for robots (maximum speed of 3000r/min, torque of 0.016 ~ 0.16N.m). After that, six series of M, F, S, H, C, G. In the 1990s, the new D series and R series were launched successively. From the old series of rectangular wave drive and 8051 MCU control to sine wave drive, 80C, 154 CPU and gate array chip control, torque fluctuation was reduced from 24% to 7% and reliability was improved. In this way, it took only a few years to form a more complete system of eight series (power range of 0.05 to 6kW) to meet the different needs of work machines, handling mechanisms, welding robots, assembly robots, electronic components, processing machines, printing machines, high-speed winding machines, and wire winding machines.

To the production of machine tool CNC device and the famous Japanese Fanuc (Fanuc) company, in the mid-1980s

The S series (13 specifications) and L series (5 specifications) of permanent magnet AC servo motors were also launched in the mid-1980s.

The L series has a small rotational inertia and mechanical time constant, and is suitable for position servo systems that require particularly fast response.

Other Japanese manufacturers such as Mitsubishi Motors (HC-KFS, HC-MFS, HC-SFS, HC-RFS, and HC-UFS series), Toshiba Seiki (SM series), Okuma Iron Works (BL series), Sanyo Electric (BL series), Tachishi Electric (S series), and many others have also entered the competition for permanent magnet AC servo systems.

The MAC series AC servo motors of Indramat Division of Rexroth (Germany) have a total of 92 specifications in 7 chassis numbers.

The IFT5 series of three-phase permanent magnet AC servo motors from Siemens of Germany is divided into two categories: standard type and short type, with a total of 8 base numbers and 98 specifications. It is said that this series of AC servo motor and the same output torque of DC servo motor IHU series, the weight is only 1/2 of the latter, supporting the transistor pulse width modulation driver 6SC61 series, up to 6 axes of motor control.

The German company BOSCH produces ferrite permanent magnet SD series (17 specifications) and rare earth permanent magnet SE series (8 specifications) AC servo motors and drive controllers of Servodyn SM series.

Gettys, a famous American servo device manufacturer, was once a division of Gould Electronics (Motion Control Division), producing M600 series AC servo motors and A600 series servo

drives. Later, it was merged into AEG, reverted to the Gettys name, and launched the A700 fully digital AC servo system.

The drive division of A-B (ALLEN-BRADLEY) produces the 1326 type ferrite permanent magnet AC servo motor and the 1391 type AC PWM servo controller. The motor includes 3 chassis numbers with 30 specifications.

I.D. (Industrial Drives) is the industrial drives division of Kollmorgen, which has produced 41 brushless servo motors and BDS3 servo drives in three series: BR-210, BR-310 and BR-510. Since 1989, we have launched a new series of Goldline permanent magnet AC servo motors, including B (small inertia), M (medium inertia) and EB (explosion-proof), with five types of base numbers: 10, 20, 40, 60 and 80, and 42 specifications in each major category. Goldline series represents the latest level of contemporary permanent magnet AC servo technology.

Inland in Ireland, formerly a foreign branch of Kollmorgen, is now merged into AEG and is known for its DC servo motors, DC torque motors and servo amplifiers. It produces SmCo permanent magnet AC servo motors in 17 sizes with three seat numbers, BHT1100, 2200 and 3300, and eight types of controllers.

Alsthom Group of France produces LC series (long type) and GC series (short type) at its Parvex factory in Paris.

AC servo motors in a total of 14 specifications and the AXODYN series drives.

In the former Soviet Union, two series of AC servo motors were developed for CNC machine tools and robot servo control. Among them, ДBy series adopts ferrite permanent magnet, there are two base numbers, each base number has three kinds of core length, each has two kinds of winding data, a total of 12 specifications, continuous torque range of 7 ~ 35N.m. 2ДBy series adopts rare earth permanent magnet, 6 base numbers 17 specifications, torque range of 0.1 ~ 170N.m, supporting the 3ДБ type controller.

In recent years, Japan Panasonic launched the all-digital MINAS series AC servo system, in which the permanent magnet AC servo motor has MSMA series small inertia type, the power from 0.03 to 5kW, a total of 18 specifications; medium inertia type has MDMA, MGMA, MFMA three series, the power from 0.75 to 4.5kW, a total of 23 specifications, MHMA series large inertia motor The power range is from 0.5 to 5kW, with 7 specifications.

Among them, FAGA AC servo motor series has CSM, CSMG, CSMZ, CSMD, CSMF, CSMS, CSMH, CSMN, CSMX, with power from 15W to 5kW.

Nowadays, the comprehensive index of Powerrate is often used as the quality factor of servo motor to measure and compare the dynamic response performance of various AC/DC servo motors and stepper motors. Powerrate represents the ratio of continuous (rated) motor torque to rotor inertia.

According to the calculation and analysis of power rate, the best technical index of permanent magnet AC servo motor is Goldline series of I.D., and IFT5 series of Siemens is the next best.
